Our Story
Shepherd of the Coast Lutheran Church was born in July 2004 as the result of the union of Grace and Peace Lutheran Churches. In August of 2008 Hope Lutheran Church of Pompano Beach merged into Shepherd of the Coast creating the largest Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod congregation in Northeast Broward County.
Though we are not yet ten years old, Shepherd of the Coast has more than a century of history. We have inherited the legacies of all three antecedent congregations and we believe that those three ministries continue in the ministry of Shepherd of the Coast.
Christian education has always been an important ministry for Shepherd of the Coast. All three of our antecedent congregations operated educational ministries. Hope Lutheran School and Peace Lutheran School combined for over 70 years of Christian education for children in Kindergarten through eighth grade. Grace Learning Center, Hope Lutheran Preschool, and Peace Lutheran Child Care Center provided early childhood education for infants to age four with nearly a century of total service to our community. Shepherd of the Coast Lutheran School provides infants to eighth grade with quality care and education in a Christian environment.
From our highly visible location on East Commercial Boulevard, we continue to touch the lives of many adults and children in our community. Our Church and School ministries reach out to a wide range of families in Northeast Broward County.
