Learning Doesn’t Stop

Many are counting down the days (hours?) until school is over. If this year is like all the others I’ve seen for the 31 years as a teacher in a Christian school, Noon on Friday will see a burst of energy from our students. School will be out for summer!

Summer vacation as we have it is uniquely American. The rest of the industrialized world has a summer break, but nothing like the 12 weeks of summer vacation that we have in this country. There have been attempts through the years to change the school calendar but, with a couple of exceptions, summer vacation remains.

Even though school will be out for the summer, learning doesn’t stop! Students will be seeing new sights on vacations or through summer camps. I hope that they will also have the opportunity to read. It is also important, particularly for younger children, that they be read to. Summer can’t be a vacation from reading!

I also pray that summer isn’t a vacation from worship. Church services here and at your home church continue for the next 12 weeks. Elsewhere in this newsletter, you’ll see information about our Vacation Bible Schoool at Shepherd of the Coast Lutheran Church. Opportunities to learn of God’s love in Christ continue during school vacation.

Have a great summer! Make it a summer of learning.

In Christ,
Dr. Daniel P. Czaplewski,
Principal
