Math: 5th Graders are beginning working with algebraic expressions. I know the word algebra can be scary to many students and parents alike, however, what we are working on is slowly introducing students to the idea that there will be variables, or letters, in some of their math problems. Students are learning how to set up simple algebraic expressions, and also how to solve complicated word problems by breaking them down into simpler steps. For extra practice at home you can find free interactive online games at www.sheppardsoftware.com

6th graders are beginning to work on operations with fractions. For these complicated operations knowing the basic multiplication tables is an essential skill that students should already have. If your child is having trouble with these please practice them at home. You can use flashcards or find free interactive online games at www.sheppardsoftware.com

Spelling and Vocabulary: 5th grade students have spelling words which they will be tested on each Friday. Units will be broken down so that students will have 10 words each week to learn. 6th grade students will have vocabulary tests each Friday as well, and units will be divided so that students learn 10 words each week.
